  • Misty Decker

    NIGHTHAWKS BOARD PRESIDENT & TREASURER

    Misty has been coaching softball in the local area for the past 4 years. Misty played competitive softball based in Arkansas from ages 13-18. She was a starter for Wynne High School’s (AAAAA) inaugural Varsity and Junior Varsity teams and a starter each year following. She also played on many co-ed competitive softball teams as a young adult. She first developed her love of coaching as a high school student - taking on her very first head coach position for a 9-10 year old local recreational team. As a mother of 4 young children, 2 girls, she is dedicated to finding and creating local pathways for athletic success for girls where they can have positive leadership and coaching experiences. She firmly believes in the statistic that the majority of C-Suite business women are former athletes and therefore is focused on developing young women to be successful on and off the field.

  • Heidi Runion

    14U COACH

    NIGHTHAWKS BOARD VICE-PRESIDENT

    Heidi has been playing softball almost her entire life and is dedicated to working with young female athletes to build their confidence, skills, and love for the game. She received softball and academic scholarships to play Division 1 softball at Belmont University in Nashville, TN (1999-2003). She was a 4-year letter winner playing catcher and 1st base. At Marysville Pilchuck High School (AAAA) she played all 4 years (lettered 3) and received multiple All-State and All-District honors. She played competitive travel softball based in Washington State from ages 13-18 playing catcher and 1st base. She started softball at the age of 7 but really developed a love for the game when her 12U All Star Little League team placed 2nd in the World Series in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Since college, Heidi has played on multiple adult women/co-ed softball teams and has coached the last seven seasons for her daughter’s youth softball teams.

    NIGHTHAWKS BOARD SECRETARY

    Houston, a Nashville native, has been playing multiple sports throughout his life. While attending Hillwood High School, he was a standout in wrestling, baseball, and football; lettering in all three sports every year in attendance. He played competitive travel baseball from ages 14-18 as a pitcher and outfielder, as well as winning the 1991 Little League State Championship. He went on to play football at Rhodes College as a running back and in Memphis before moving closer to home and finishing his studies at Belmont University in Nashville. Houston has played on and coached multiple adult men’s and co-ed softball teams and has been coaching youth baseball/softball for the past 6 years. Houston is a teacher at heart and works to not only develop players’ technical skills but also expand their knowledge of the game and appreciation for the mental aspects of strategy and execution.

    Carly Shogren

    8U COACH - 2024 SEASON

    Carly grew up in the Chicagoland area where her parents owned and operated a softball/baseball training facility. Softball was a major part of her life from a very early age, playing competitive travel softball from age 8. She played on her high school team as the only freshman to make Junior Varsity and used her skills at both 3 rd and 1 st base. She was also known for her powerful bat and ability to be used at multiple positions as needed. Carly values having a high softball IQ and working with her teams on not only playing the game but having a strong Understanding of the sport. She was also an umpire for girls’ softball for many years which allowed her a unique perspective when switching over to the coaching side. She has coached in the Williamson County league for 5 years with her daughter’s teams as well as travel ball and coached youth softball in the Chicagoland area. She has been a foster parent for several years and believes that all girls should feel empowered both on and off the field and works hard to boost the confidence of each player she coaches.

  • Crissy Bonnett

    Crissy Bonnett

    8U COACH - 2024 SEASON

    Crissy grew up in central Illinois and discovered her love for sports at a young age, playing softball, basketball and golf. She played competitive travel softball starting at age 10, played varsity for her high school and participated in the Chicago Tribune Super 60. She continued her softball career at Lincoln College on both a softball and golf scholarship, holding the starting SS position. She was also known for her slapping ability and speed on the field. She continues to use her skills as slapper and speed coach, working with many young players today. Crissy has three children and has coached Her daughter’s teams for the last 5 years in the Williamson County league as well as travel ball. She also works with special education students at a local elementary school and teaches players to always treat others with respect both on and off the field.

  • Beth Akers

    10U COACH

    Beth grew up in Goodlettsville and found a passion for the game of softball at age 9. Bringing a solid bat and quick reflexes in the field, she earned a varsity spot starting in 8th grade at Davidson Academy where she received multiple all-conference/all-state honors over five years on the team. Beth pitched throughout high school and received a scholarship to Union University where she pitched and played 3B. She left the mound when she was recruited to play for Belmont at 3B. There she played under scholarship for three years and was a part of the original D1 team when Belmont promoted from NAIA. Beth is a trained educator who uses her skills to coach young girls to be their best on and off the field. She has coached her daughter's team for 5 years at Grassland and coached a travel team last summer.

  • Elizabeth Higdon

    10U COACH

    Elizabeth is a native Nashvillian and has been playing softball most of her life. She played competitive travel softball for a Tennessee based organization from ages 13-18. She also played high school softball for the State Champion Goodpasture High School team. Elizabeth is the mother of two daughters and has been coaching softball for over 7 years. She has seen first hand the impact of team sports on the development of her daughters and her players in their self-confidence and esteem, as well as their physical prowess and performance. Her commitment as a woman, mother, and a coach is to inspire a positive environment for player and team growth and to cultivate the talents that will reap success for her players both on the field and beyond.

  • Laura Corder

    12U COACH

    Laura grew up locally in Franklin, TN where she was a multisport athlete through high school. She fell in love with the game of softball and continued her career at Trevecca Nazarene University where she was awarded an academic and athletic scholarship. She was a 4 year starter at shortstop and team captain for teams that won conference championships while also earning multiple births to the NAIA Softball World Series. Laura’s time spent playing softball has turned into a love for coaching. She is passionate about building confidence, developing proper fundamentals and game IQ in young athletes.

  • April Kepner

    12U COACH

    April was a four-year letter winner on her varsity softball team at Alleghany High School her hometown of Sparta, NC. She has been coaching softball since she moved to Franklin with her family in 2017. April’s favorite part of coaching is seeing players confidence grow through hard work on the field, and the ability to deal with adversity on and off the field. She has also been an integral part of multiple kickball championship teams, most recently in Williamson County in 2019.

  • Brad Emmel

    12U COACH

    Brad is a sports enthusiast who grew up in Wisconsin playing multiple sports throughout his childhood and into his early adult years. He started playing baseball at the age of 6 and in high school was a 4 year starter on the varsity baseball team earning multiple all-conference honors as both a pitcher and a shortstop. Additionally, in his early 20’s he played competitive male semi-fast softball competing in tournaments throughout the state of Wisconsin. Brad is a father of 3 children and has previously coached both softball and basketball in local rec leagues for the past 6 years. Brad has a passion for coaching and really enjoys helping young athletes develop both their skills and knowledge of the game.

  • Jeff Day

    16U COACH

    Jeff is a Nashville native. He started playing baseball at the age of 5 and played many years in the Brentwood youth baseball program at Civitan. He then transitioned to competitive travel baseball at the age of 13. He played Varsity baseball and football for Brentwood High School all three years that he was in attendance. He transitioned to coaching youth sports in college to include baseball, football, and hockey. Jeff has been involved in the local rec/travel softball program as a head/assistant coach for the past 6 years. He is dedicated to helping his daughter and her teammates become strong leaders in the community both on and off the softball field.

  • David Mason

    16U COACH

    David brings a multitude of experience to the Nighthawks family. He has been coaching local youth softball for years. 8 years ago he transitioned to competitive travel softball and has head coaching experiences across all levels from 10U to 18U.

  • Jamie Mudd

    8u (2016) COACH

    Jamie fell in love with softball at a young age. She played competitive travel softball from age 12-17, playing multiple positions from shortstop, 2nd base to centerfield. Jamie attended high school at Providence Christian Academy in Lilburn, GA, where she was a starter every year on her school's junior varsity (8th-9th) and varsity softball team (10th-12th). As a sophomore on the varsity team, she helped her team become state A/AA runner-ups and earned the Rookie of the Year award. Her senior year, she was voted by her teammates to be the team captain and helped lead her team to win their region and earned the Golden Glove award for playing 3rd base. More recently, she has competed locally in co-ed softball leagues, and won the team Nashville Fit games competition in 2019 and a local team CrossFit competition in 2020.

    Softball has provided her with countless memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. Whether it's celebrating victories with teammates or supporting each other through tough losses, the camaraderie of the softball community is unmatched and she hopes to pass that experience on to the next generation of players.

  • Austin Mudd

    8U (2016) COACH

    Austin is a native of Nashville who started playing league baseball at Crieve Hall at age 8. He played at Brentwood High School for 4 years where he played catcher, 3rd base and 1st base on the varsity team starting in his sophomore year. He continued to the University of Georgia for club play being Player of the Week twice; one with 2 grand slams, including a walk off, against Clemson. He has played competitive men’s softball, won a co-ed softball league, won the team Nashville Fit gamies competition in 2019 and has helped as assistant coach for a 10u baseball team in Franklin and now coach his daughter’s softball teams. Austin believes in coaching players that 1. Continuously get better 2. Foster a love for the game and 3. Win.

    Austin and Jamie live out of southeast Franklin with 4 kids; Molly (8), Harper (6), Luke (3) and Noah (3). Austin is a Regional Director of Operations for US Oral Surgery Management in the southeast and when not working, he can be found working out or outside with the kids most days.
